Be Proud Of The Pain, Never Give Up On YOU | Mthokozisi Nkosi

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

 – Fight Club –

“STAFF SERGEANT SHILO Harris and his fellow soldiers were on patrol on Route Metallica, south of Baghdad, when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. Of the five souls inside, only two remained, Shilo and the driver, both were seriously wounded. Shilo woke up almost two months later from his comma and had suffered third-degree burns to 35% of his body, including his face, arms, and torso. He lost his ears, the tip of his nose, his left index and pinkie fingers and his right pinkie finger. He had broken his collarbone and spine. He had been operated on more than 20 times. His wife became his primary caregiver, spending anywhere up to six hours a day on his wound care. When she was interviewed, she responded saying “the situation they have been put in, it would have been easy to let it guide their life into a negative and into turmoil- and all the negative things that you can imagine, but they have taken what happened to Shilo and turned it into a very positive thing.”

I remember reading the above story and being moved by it. We

have seen this working in the lives of all successful people, leaders, businessmen, and ordinary people like you and me, even on children. We learn from pain than we do from anything else in this life. Right now you may be asking yourself; what is he saying? How can anyone learn from being hurt? What lesson can you obtain from your bruises? There you are, on the floor, bleeding to a point where you think you are about to die, and here I am, telling you there is a lesson in those bruises.

Imagine a child attempting his or her first walk. They stand up – and just when they try taking their first step, they find themselves on the floor. Sometimes they cry and the next time they try again, when they feel they are about fall, they quickly look for something to hold on to, so they can find balance and avoid the pain.

I do not know what it means to you, but to me, it means that we cannot achieve real success in any field without great effort and sacrifice from our end. I agree; there are people who have gained wealth without any pain whatsoever. When we take the case of the son of a millionaire, we know how he has come to inherit a great fortune without any a headache. But we can realize these are rare cases of luck, just like a man winning a lottery.

Napoleon Hill said in his book, “power in the hands of one who did not acquire it gradually is often fatal to success, and quick riches are more dangerous than poverty. For me, it remains the truth that success can be won only at the cost of hard work and ceaseless labor. Individuals who  seek  great  success have  to  work hard. A leader is not born but made through hard work and perseverance.

The story is also true in your personal life. If you start a business, at first you have to suffer a loss. This is what the pain means. Once you suffer the pain there is a reward in a form of gain. The best way of get rid of pain is to forget about it and focus instead on the pleasure. Switch the focus and you switch the feeling.

Now listen to this, we could’ve all been created as automated robots. But instead, each of us was given a set of challenges and potential to overcome them. This is how we grow and repair our souls. Every moment we`re alive, we are using our free will to choose between life and death, reality or escapism. We either make the choice to take the pain and grow or we`re quitting. We all have everything to gain and we should be proud of the pain.
